Many acclaims later, Joel transmogrified Easy Axess into the leaner, meaner retro funk
rock of Sam I Was, joining forces with J?.  At this time he also joined BW4 an ever-
changing line up offering Barami Waspe on saxophones as a frontman and bandleader.
In joining Idgit Galoot ,fronted by Percussion King Mike Folz, a need for intelligent,
progressive rock
was finally satisfied  with a bold quartet of professionals. These
projects gave him much creative control and
became the breeding ground for his kind of
music which transcends genres. Orthodox labels such as Rock, Metal, Jazz, Alternative,
Country, and Funk never do justice to his individual sound which combines intricately
woven arrangements with free form jams and defies categorization, blending styles in
seamless, plush, warm, purely musical sounds. Many “Bootlegged” recordings of this
period exist and are a clear indicator of the direction his music was to take.

Joel did time as a behind the scenes member of many of the diverse and talented bands
across a wide spectrum of styles, most notably Gwendolyn Speaks and 7-Tsly, shaping
their recordings of that period, though unfortunately due to conflict of management, all
tracks of his were erased and replayed by other bassists.

Immediately following that period Joel played an integral role in Apogee (with
heavyweights
Mr. Dibbs, doseone and why?), and Luscious Brown (with phenomenal
talent
Lucky Spaulding), and the renowned 819 POSSE.  more   back
