Music permeates practically every aspect of our lives, and its restorative and therapeutic properties are well documented. I feel it is as
important to teach music as it is to perform music in order share the joy and benefits of music with as many people as possible. I am
available to teach most instruments at a beginning level and specialize in piano, percussion, guitar, woodwinds and bass at more
advanced levels.

3-5 years:  At a very young age children absorb language and social cues at an astounding rate. At this age it is crucial to introduce
broad concepts of music such as musical vocabulary (instrument names and roles, as well as fundamental concepts (such as
dynamics and opposites), and to establish practical applications for children to play musical games and try musical instruments. At
this stage parental involvement is great and children's involvement includes specifically critical thinking and imitation. This is often
accomplished in groups. When children begin to analyze music at this age it becomes almost instinct, and it exercises the same parts
of the brain that later facilitate mathematical skill, reading skill and attention span.

6-8 years: During this period the emphasis remains on musical vocabulary, and imitation. At this point expect children to begin
learning songs and specific multi-lingual musical vocabulary, as well as a foundation in  technique.  Parental involvement is crucial as
it is up to the parent to reinforce information between lessons. At this point it is proper that students spend time in groups and or
participate in recitals so that they begin to appreciate the wealth of musical information that exists. All lessons at this point also
reinforce basic reading and mathematical skill as well as a physical awareness of the muscular and skeletal systems and proper
respiration that apply to the students particular instrument. Musical literacy, concentration and self motivation are sculpted from this
point on.
